Orcosmic

Short script- Mystical Drama

Black history, most times it is relegated to slavery, servitude, oppression, and ascension through America’s social Echelons via the civil rights movement as if our very existence started in the bellies of those brutal slave ships. And Black culture, America’s number one export, is usually relegated to sports, entertainment, and the arts in general. Our creative point of view from the beginning was to change the aforementioned Narratives. So Orcosmic and any other project I’ve created thus far is a culmination of the reading and contemplation that I have done on Black history( before they put us in chains) and culture. The more you dig, the more you find, and the truth is, there are a lot of unturned stones in the culturally and historically rich black soil of the Diaspora.
A piece of my ethnic history inspired Orcosmic. I’m Haitian, and during the Haitian revolution, the rebelling slaves held a Voodoo ceremony at Bois Caiman that blessed their rebellion and gave them the confidence to move forward. The ceremony itself was proof that we can accomplish great things when we unite and align with our ancient spiritual beliefs. Remember, our Ancestors didn’t pray to Jesus during the middle passage. Orcosmic is a metaphor for this very point, Our couple connects with a piece of their history, and when they do, something magical happens.
If our director choose to take the stories and slang from the 90’s crack era and combine it with Warner Brothers-type animated characters, we can do that because it is part of my collective Black experience; it’s just an edgier, adult version of the Animaniacs. Like I said before, the same story different point of view, nothing is new under the sun, so let us have our time in the light.

SGT Vasquez’s Playlist

Feature Film- Military Drama-  A veteran returns home with PTSD and uses Art as a form of Therapy.

SGT Vasquez’s playlist is Yerania latest endeavor and draws from her own experience as a Latina, Combat Veteran, Divorcé, Mother and survivor. Known as a force of nature by family and friends, alike, she have the vision and the will to create a multi- faceted, culturally rich, and diverse story that captures the energy and essence of a fierce Latina who uses art as a therapy to help her reconnect with the world.

She wanted to create a dramatic narrative that promotes a diversity of the Latin characters and the multiracial, multicultural reality of the Latin military experience.
SGT Vasquez’s Playlist explores one of these realities and experiences within a military and civilian’s family day to day struggle. A struggle over the traumatic events, daily life, the influences of familial bonds, interpersonal relationships, struggles with each other and genuinely tell some aspects of her life and some of the issues faced.

The themes of SGT Vasquez’s Playlist center on the Latino family and the ways in which they help each other get through life. A veteran’s life after the military.

Using imagery, sound, music, rhythms and gestures to convey the intricacies of characters in the story which allows her to go further into the dynamics of the Latino family and defy traditional plot mechanics and Latino stereotypes. Color, light and shadow are used as a foundation to reflect the internal and external character conflicts and expressions of emotion. With sound, and music enriching the experience, drawing the viewer into the life of a single mother and traumatized veteran, who uses her art in her therapy and as a way of telling the world her pain.

Yerania loves Collaborative projects, her production crew is a Combination of International team members with people from Mexico, South Africa, Colombia, Sweden, Italy, India, Japan, Pakistan, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Haiti and the United States.

One of the most important attributes of this project is having in the team a good balanced between male and female members in the key roles joining all our effort to the same goal of telling a dramatic story that takes us through the Aftermath of the war left in Antonia.

Growing up in a low-income neighborhood in the Morrisania section of The South Bronx Yerania learned that the chances of a young Dominican girl from a poor family making it as a filmmaker were slim-to-none. So she did what anyone would do who wanted to escape the poverty she came from, she joined the Army. After 10 years and a tour in Iraq she became disabled and was honorably discharged. she decided to return to New York City with the hope of becoming an actress. She enrolled at the New School University and began taking several courses in filmmaking and screenwriting. She continued my higher education attending Vermont College of Fine Arts, Masters in Film. With a focus on story development, writing, and creating characters, She found herself drawn to the motivations of the characters - the things that made them live and breathe. She soon realized how Latinos were underrepresented in their authenticity on TV and in film.

There is a strong need to create storylines and characters that explored the breadth of the Latin experience. It was a natural extension of my own experiences that drew her into a deeper commitment to be a filmmaker that captures the real and varied substance of Latinos.

Santera explores one of these realities and experiences within a mystical, magical world their influences of familial bonds, interpersonal relationships, and struggles with each other genuinely reflect my culture and some of the issues faced.

The themes of Santera center on the Latino family and the ways in which they help each other get through life. Using imagery, sound, rhythms and gestures to convey the intricacies of characters in the story allows me to go further into the dynamics of the Latino family and defy traditional plot mechanics and Latino stereotypes. With sound, and music enriching the experience, drawing the viewer into the mysterious and magical world of Santeria and the young Dominican girl who opens a Pandora’s Box of surprise twists and turns while trying to protect her family.
